Hair Loss Treatment – What Causes Hair Loss?

It’s normal to lose 50 to 100 hairs a day, but if you notice more than that, it may be a sign of an underlying problem. Fortunately, the causes of most hair loss are treatable.

Most often, treatment for thinning hair and bald spots involves medications or topical treatments. In some cases, your dermatologist will also recommend a medical procedure.

For example, if your hair loss is caused by an abnormal hormone imbalance, treatment of that condition usually resolves the problem. Your doctor will test your blood to measure your thyroid function and iron levels, as well as examine your scalp.

Hormonal changes from pregnancy, childbirth, menopause and other health conditions can cause temporary or permanent hair loss. They include alopecia areata (al-o-PEE-she-uh ar-e-A-tuh), an immune system disease that causes patchy baldness and other skin problems; telogen effluvium, a type of temporary hair thinning or shedding that occurs after chemotherapy or radiation treatment; and trichotillomania (tri-KHOH-till-uh-MAN-uh), a compulsion to pull your own scalp or other hair.부산탈모

You might be able to stop your hair from thinning and regrow it by changing your diet, managing stress, wearing your hair in a different style or using a cooling cap during chemotherapy. In addition, many dermatologists specialize in treating underlying diseases that cause hair loss.

If your hair loss is caused by an autoimmune disease that triggers the body to destroy its own cells, you might be treated with corticosteroid medications, which can counteract this effect and encourage your healthy hair follicles to grow again. These medications are available as topical solutions or injections and require a prescription.

In some cases, your dermatologist may also recommend a low-level laser device to stimulate new growth and encourage existing hair to thicken and revert back to its original fullness. Unlike the hair transplants used in some plastic surgery, this therapy doesn’t require extensive healing time.서면탈모

Medications such as the over-the-counter topical drug minoxidil (Rogaine(r)) or the prescription oral medication finasteride (Propecia(r)) are FDA-approved for men and women with pattern baldness. They work by blocking the enzyme that signals your scalp to produce more hair. Alternatively, your doctor might recommend PRP (platelet-rich plasma), which is taken from your own blood and separated into its components. Your doctor then injects this into your scalp to improve blood flow and boost new hair growth. These therapies have shown some promise for reversing hair loss, but they need more research to determine whether they can improve the appearance of your hair. Some studies suggest that a combination of these medications can provide the best results. For example, you might combine minoxidil with a steroid such as clobetasol propionate to prevent further hair loss and to speed the growth of new follicles.
